Flores Votes for Economic Growth and Opportunity

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed H. Con. Res. 96, the House Republican fiscal year 2015 budget. Following passage of this most recent "Path to Prosperity" budget, Congressman Bill Flores issued the following statement:

"For far too long, Washington has been living well beyond its means. If we continue to keep the status quo, we will be buried under even more debt and our economy will be severely weakened.

"Today, the House passed a fiscal blueprint that creates an environment for a growing economy and more jobs, reforms federal spending and balances the budget in 10 years. This budget promotes economic growth by setting a path towards American energy security, repealing Obamacare, providing essential medical and scientific research funding, reforming the tax code and strengthening entitlement programs. Furthermore, it ensures that our military and defense have the equipment, people, training and resources they need to keep America safe.

"House Democrats submitted a substitute budget that would have raised taxes by $1.8 trillion, increased spending by $740 billion, increased our debt $637 billion by 2024 and never balances. This substitute budget did not pass the House as it fails to help American families and fuels wasteful Washington spending. Additionally, the president's budget was brought forward for a vote and only received two yea votes. His budget proposed drastic cuts to our military, higher taxes and increased spending; and it failed to address America's increasing fiscal challenges.

"The House-passed budget takes a responsible, balanced approach to help our economy grow, help create more jobs and better paychecks for hardworking American families. This budget holds Washington accountable to taxpayers and steps away from the tax and spend mindset in order to lead America toward a future that is prosperous."
